City centre pubs stage smokefree link up for No Smoking Day
March 9, 2005 - PRESS RELEASE
Pubs and bars across Liverpool are linking up together to become smokefree for the first time this Wednesday.
SmokeFree Liverpool will be hosting celebratory events at venues across the city to mark national No Smoking Day.
Bar Pacific, The Metropolitan, The Symphony, and Woody's have all stepped forward to take part, seeing it as a positive opportunity to promote the cause and test out no smoking policies on their customers.
Andy Hull, Chair of SmokeFree Liverpool, said: "We recently put out a call to pubs in the city to see who would be willing to do this in honour of No Smoking Day. It is the perfect opportunity for bar owners and customers alike to see for themselves how smokefree environments work.
"We are thrilled at how these four popular city centre venues have enthusiastically supported us. The positive response symbolises the strong feeling about the issue in Liverpool at the moment."
The smokefree party starts at 5:30pm at Bar Pacific on Temple Street before moving on to the other venues.
Each bar is offering a combination of arts, live music and food. Trained smoking cessation specialists will also be on hand to offer advice to customers.
