Liverpool's Superlambanana goes smokefree.

The iconic work of art has been painted purple instead of its usual yellow, and has the slogan 'Culturally SmokeFree' on its sides.

"January is a month of great activity in the campaign to make Liverpool's workplaces entirely smokefree," said Andy Hull, Chair of SmokeFree Liverpool. "It just seemed natural to get Superlambanana involved...

"The 'Culturally SmokeFree' slogan emphasises that going smokefree is all about changing the culture of this city - making it a place where all people can go to work without being subjected to others' tobacco smoke."

As well as the purple paint job for Superlambanana, January will see a number of smokefree nights at pubs and clubs in the city, a visit by a dozen publicans to Cork, air quality testing at 20 private members' clubs, and the progress of the 'Smokefree Merseyside' Bill in Parliament.

Superlambanana will remain purple until the end of February, on its site in Tithebarn Street in the city centre.
