11,000 support Liverpool ban on smoking in youth rated films

More than 11,000 postcards were handed to council chiefs backing a ban on smoking in youth-rated movies.
Campaigners were joined by giant papier-mache movie "stars" - Jack Sparrow, Jessica Rabbit, Samuel L Jackson and The Joker - to present Liverpool City Council with the cards.
People in the city have been asked to give their opinion on plans to give newly released films featuring smoking an automatic 18 rating, when shown in the city.
The council has been consulting on the issue since July, inviting views from the public and organisations.
SmokeFree Liverpool and youth group D-MYST have been out on the streets throughout the consultation, using the film star heads to attract attention.
Eilidh McCluskie, D-MYST Programme Manager said: "There's no doubt there is huge support for this from local people. This demonstrates that people understand how important it would be for public health in the city if the council decided to use its powers."
