Croxteth pub joins SmokeFree crusade
January 27, 2005 - PRESS RELEASE
Another city pub is going smokefree - to show support for the SmokeFree Liverpool campaign, and to raise money for the people of Carlisle.
The Lobster in Croxteth this week becomes the latest venue to stage a smokefree event.
The event on Thursday night will showcase the talent of bands from Croxteth Communiversity and offer support to help smokers give up for good. Trained smoking cessation specialists will be on hand to offer support and advice.
Phillip Nibb of Croxteth Community Trust says: "We encourage locals to come along and support the event, and we are hoping to encourage other pubs in the area to follow suit."
A recent survey of the city's residents showed that the vast majority of Liverpool people recognise the dangers of second-hand smoke and would support a law to make workplaces smoke-free. In addition, 84 per cent of residents agreed that 'all employees have the right to work in a smokefree environment'.
SmokeFree Liverpool Chair Andy Hull said: "The campaign continues to go from strength to strength and we are thrilled to see an increasing number of pubs voluntarily going smokefree. In December, the Noah's Ark pub in Speke began a series of smokefree events which have proved very popular with local residents. We are sure The Lobster will enjoy the same success"
The night at The Lobster kicks off at 7.30pm and will also be a fundraiser for the people of Carlisle who suffered floods and damage in recent bad weather.
Ann Creswell, Manager of The Lobster, said: "We decided to hold this event to see how our customers enjoy a smokefree atmosphere. We had a fun night when bands from the Communiversity played here last time and it will be a great way of raising money for the people of Carlisle."
