Pupils support SmokeFree Liverpool campaign

June 23, 2005 - PRESS RELEASE FROM SMOKEFREE LIVERPOOL

Thousands of school children throughout Liverpool are getting the smokefree message - on their wrists.

Campaigning group SmokeFree Liverpool have been distributing purple, limited edition wristbands to schools throughout the city, to push home the message about the risks of second-hand tobacco smoke, and the city's efforts to make all workplaces smokefree.

The Absolutely Smokefree wristbands have gone to more than 20 schools, including West Derby Comprehensive.

Andy Hull, Chair of SmokeFree Liverpool, said: "Local children are an important part of the audience for the smokefree message, and we thought wristbands were a good way of making the point. Schools have been snapping them up.

"We want everybody in the city to feel involved in the campaign because it is everybody's city we are trying to improve by going smokefree."
