City Restaurants to Host Special Smokefree Evenings

A number of well-known Liverpool restaurants have joined forces to support the Smokefree Liverpool campaign during the Liverpool Food and Drink Festival.

From 24th - 31st October, a number of restaurants across the city will host a series of smokefree evenings where staff and customers will be protected from the harmful health effects of secondhand smoke.

To celebrate, SmokeFree Liverpool is giving away £2000 worth of vouchers for the evenings, in a special on-line competition.

Two £10 vouchers will be available to the first 100 people who enter and answer a simple question, which can be found by visiting either the SmokeFree Liverpool or Liverpool Food and Drink Festival websites at www.smokefreeliverpool.com and www.liverpoolfoodanddrink.com

Health@Work, a charitable occupational health organisation, has helped organise the evenings with the restaurant owners and is pleased to announce the competition.

Keith Gorman, Smokefree Project Manager, with Health@Work said, 'we want to protect the health of all workers from exposure to second-hand tobacco smoke, while at work'

'These events aim to raise awareness with hospitality managers, workers and the public about the dangers bar and restaurant staff face from exposure to second-hand tobacco smoke while at work. It will also give people the opportunity to experience dining in a smokefree environment.'

'We are asking people to try it out. This offer is open to both smokers and non-smokers'

Andrea Crossfield, SmokeFree Liverpool Programme Director, said: "During the Liverpool Food and Drink Festival people will be able to enjoy the wondrous array of restaurants and fantastic food this city has to offer. Now because of this initiative many of those people will also be able to enjoy their meal in a totally smokefree environment, something that they may not have been able to do otherwise."
