Calling all local musicians
April 7, 2006
Liverpool's budding musicians are being given the opportunity to show off their talent and learn about the music industry at a two-week music event.
The Picket's 'Liverpool Now: High & Dry' event is open to people between the ages of 14 and 25 and takes place from Monday 17 until Friday 28 April.
The event is sponsored by D-MYST - a smokefree movement, led by and for young people - and will be 100% smoke-free, ensuring that everyone attending and working at the event will be protected against exposure to second-hand smoke.
Jam-packed with musically themed workshops, seminars and mini-talks, young musicians will be offered tips and advice from music industry professionals, with opportunities to perform in front of the Liverpool public.
Gina McDaid, Project Co-ordinator of D*MYST, said: "Everyone at D*MYST is really excited about the event as it gives young people a chance to express themselves creatively and become passionate about music and performance.
"The fact that the event will be smokefree is also inspiring as it is a sign of the times and shows how we are developing as a smokefree city."
Karin Struyk, Event Manager of 'Liverpool Now: High and Dry' added: "We hope that all those young people that have been trying to make music in their bedrooms will grab this chance to explore their talents more and learn a trick or two from the music industry experts, meet new people to make music with, or just come and enjoy the gigs."
The Cavern on Mathew Street will play host to the event's first all-day Dry Bar gig - taking place on Easter Monday (17 April).
The gigs and seminars in the second week will proudly inaugurate The Picket in its new location at 61 Jordan Street.
