Why go smokefree?

Smoking kills and there are numerous medical studies to back this up. But tobacco doesn’t just kill smokers - each year up to 100 people die in Liverpool as a direct result of inhaling second-hand tobacco smoke.

Liverpool took the initiative in 2004 and decided that it was time to tackle the harmful effects of second-hand smoke.

SmokeFree Liverpool is now working closely with employers, staff and organisations to create a smokefree environment for all the city's employees and customers, as England prepares for smokefree legislation across the board.

SmokeFree Liverpool is providing resources to help businesses implement smokefree policies in their workplaces, provides support for smokers who want to quit and will reward organisations who protect their employees and customers from the effects of second-hand tobacco smoke by awarding them the National Clean Air Award.

Liverpool’s workplaces are going smokefree. We intend to protect the health of all workers from the harmful effects of second-hand tobacco smoke.
